The Challenge
Stockport homes had a lot of very old doors. The doors were mainly made from timber. Timber is not a great material to use for communal entrance doors as it will deteriorate very quickly through use and weather, especially in the Northwest. Thus, meaning that they required repainting which added costs to Stockport Homes.
The Requirement
Many blocks required new communal security doors, door entry and access control equipment. Most of the blocks had old timber communal doors, which were operated by magnetic strikes. The administration for these blocks required considerable input from both the management and admin teams at Stockport Homes as the doors were well over 20 years old. Having identified the need to update their blocks, Stockport homes then had to find a suitable supplier to undertake a programme of works.
Stockport Homes appointed F. Bamford (Engineering) Ltd, known in the security door industry as Bamford Doors, as their preferred supplier to provide the single solution. They were local in Stockport which meant a great deal to the Management team at Stockport Homes as they were then supporting the local economy, which is great social value.

The Brief
- Robust and fit for purpose products, accredited to STS 202 – Secured by Design
- Flexible in the design – some needed automation for scooters, prams such as ones in Bramhall and some wanted a timber effect.
- Extended product guarantees.
The green door is still in perfectly good working order thanks to our maintenance package.

The Results
Stockport Homes have been using Bamford Doors for well over 15 years. Some of the doors may be looking a little tired and a bit old and weathered but they are still working like they did when they were first installed. James Hood, from Stockport Homes, is a huge advocate for the product that we sell here at Bamford Doors and would not go with any other supplier.
